The Muscles of the Lioness

I decided that I wanted to paint something on the computer for practice. To add to the experience I decided to paint from an anatomy book I have called Cyclopedia Anatomicae by Gyorgy Feher and Andras Szunyoghy.

After finishing up the lion, I decided I needed some background practice as well, so I found an image online (which I can't seem to find now). Overall, this isn't something I find particularly interesting, but it was some excellent practice. Obviously all muscles shown are not labeled.

Leonard's Hyena

A somewhat quick relief print I made of a hyena in the style of my favorite printmaker, Leonard Baskin. I enjoyed working on this very much and will hopefully come up with more print-worthy images of hyenas in the future.

I haven't actually signed or numbered the edition yet, but as of right now, there may be 5 in the edition plus one or two more as artist's proofs.

The paper size is 30"x 22.5"
printed on Rives BFK with Graphic Chemical water-based ink
The relief block is carved from sintra
printed with a Dickerson combination press.

Dovima

Sketch of a photo I found of the model, Dovima taken by Richard Avedon. I found the photo online and felt it was really striking and beautiful. After scanning it, I realized how little I served the photo justice. I think next time I sketch from a reference online I will print the image out. I really enjoyed looking through vintage photos of models. The black and white seems to add a certain classiness to the women and men posing.
